Banzo
Synopsis
In 1907, on a tropical African island, a physician named Afonso takes up a post as a plantation doctor and encounters workers dying from 'banzo' — the deep nostalgic longing of the enslaved for their homeland. Authorities isolate the afflicted on a rain-soaked hillside, while Afonso struggles to treat them. He ultimately discovers that no medicine can reach what is broken in the spirit of those robbed of their freedom and home.
