Synopsis
After a devastating stroke at the age of seventy-one, celebrated Portuguese writer José Cardoso Pires loses the ability to communicate and to recognise words — the very medium of his life's work. The film moves between a surreal hemisphere of imagination and the world of reality where his wife Edite, family, and medical staff fight to bring him back. Inspired by Cardoso Pires' own memoir of his recovery, it is a meditation on language, fragility, and the will to return to life.
